Things to Remember Once You Decide To Pursue Your Passion

by | Purpose

Even as a full-time job or a side hobby, following your passions can give you a sense of purpose and helps you attain peace of mind. Yet while it is always worthwhile to take time to do the things you love, it is also possible to chase your dreams for the wrong reasons. In this case, pursuing your passion may cease to be a rewarding experience and starts to become a distressing journey. Thus, if you wish to enjoy the benefits of living your passions, there are important things to keep in mind. Here are three of them:

Don’t do it for fame or money.

Committing to honing your passions can indeed open doors of opportunities. Yet fixing your eyes on the prize ahead can make you lose sight of the true essence of what you are doing. Your goal should first be to enjoy your craft and share your talent with others. If you are an aspiring writer or painter, thinking about possible fees you can earn from your art can result in sloppy or mediocre work. On the other hand, focusing on polishing your craft can help you produce outstanding masterpieces. And before you know it, you may soon start earning profits and acclaim because of your work. As they say, do your work with passion and money may soon chase after you.

Be ready to be criticized.

The decision to pursue your passions takes courage because it is like standing up for your dreams. In a way, it is announcing to the world that you believe in your talents or abilities. However, making the move to work on your passions will most likely lead to a discovery that you still have a lot to learn. This means that you can expect criticisms to come your way. You may also hear a lot of suggestions on how you can improve. It may not always be easy to hear negative feedback about something you know you can do very well. Yet taking note of people’s opinions and suggestions is an excellent way for you to grow and improve. So set aside your pride and be humble enough to accept criticisms that you can use to excel in your craft.

It is hard work.

Doing things you love is supposed to be enjoyable that others may fail to take it seriously. But remember that the best artists and athletes put in a lot of time and effort in their profession. This means that seriously pursuing your passion also takes discipline and commitment. Among other things, it means committing to a schedule, avoiding procrastination, and finishing what you started.  So think twice about pursuing your passion if you are not ready to work hard for it.

To pursue your passion is one piece of advice you always hear when it comes to living a happy and fulfilling life. As it can empower and inspire you, it is also one thing you are unlikely to regret doing. Just make sure you are fully aware of the things you can encounter while following your dreams.
