You Never Know Who’s Watching

by | Aug 26, 2026 | Leadership

Have you ever stopped to think about how many eyes are on you? It’s probably more than you realize. Your kids, your team, your family, and your friends are watching. Even people you’ve only met a handful of times notice how you handle what life throws at you. Whether you intended to or not, you’re setting an example every single day. The question isn’t whether you’re influencing people. The question is, what kind of influence are you leaving behind?

Your Actions Speak Loudest

I’ve learned that people don’t usually remember every word you say. They remember how you made them feel, how you treated them, and whether your actions matched your values. Telling someone to work hard, be kind, or stay positive all day long isn’t even close to as impactful as setting the example and living those values out yourself.

That’s especially true if you’re raising kids or leading a team. People are constantly taking mental notes. They notice whether you keep your word, if you stay calm under pressure, and how you encourage others when things get tough. Those everyday moments have a bigger impact than most of us give them credit for.

You Might Be Expanding Someone’s World

As someone who encourages others, you never know where it will lead. A simple conversation could give someone the confidence to face a fear, start a business, repair a relationship, or believe they’re capable of something they never thought possible.

Sometimes people just need to see one person do something before they start believing they can do it too.

  • Your courage gives someone else permission to be courageous.
  • Your persistence reminds someone else not to quit.
  • Your kindness has a way of spreading farther than you’ll ever get to see.

You may be encouraging someone without even knowing it.

Make People Better After They Meet You

"and we'll rise up" is written on a line of a yellow notepad.

I believe in leaving people a little more optimistic than you found them. Celebrate their wins. Speak life into them. Cheer them on. Be generous with your compliments and slow to criticize.

The world has plenty of people pointing out what’s wrong. You have the power to be someone who reminds others of what they’re doing right and what’s possible. You never know who needs that reminder today.

Be the Example You Once Needed

Think back to a time when someone believed in you before you fully believed in yourself. Chances are, you still remember that person.

Now it’s your turn.

Be kind and encouraging. Live in a way that makes people think, “Maybe I can do that, too.”

You won’t know all the lives you’ve influenced, but I promise this: someone is deciding what’s possible because they watched you refuse to give up. That’s a legacy worth building.
